Otherwise Known As

The sky is blue. The grass is green.
I see the bright light, and am slowly tip toeing out to be seen.

I’m sorry, but this is all so very new.
I’m very afraid to share the “real me” with you.

Please excuse me if I still look down
When you tell me I’m not lost, but you see me, I’ve been found.

Will you come and wait with me today?
I’m really glad to see you but I might not say.

What’s my name you ask?

Nice to meet you. This is me.
Otherwise known as, “I am free.”
Everyday.
more.
a reality.
To me.

I am learning to be a child. I am becoming free to dream.
Although remembering how to do this isn’t as easy as it seems.

Today, I feel hope. Every day I’m stronger.
Every day I invite these tiny glimpses of my future to stay a little longer.

I feel so safe. I’m learning to fly.
Please don’t worry – these are tears of joy I cry.

Nice to meet you. This is me.
Otherwise known as, “For the first time in a long time, I am beginning to believe.”

Please don’t stop smiling at me. Keep coming around.
Keep reminding me that I can do it, that it’s ok that I fell and fall down.

Nice to meet you. This is me.
Otherwise known as, “Fully in control of my own destiny.”

Today I run through the field, today I embrace my new start.
The one otherwise known as “Shattered in a million pieces,”
is now in love with the beating of her own heart.

Thank you for stopping to care for me.
I’m learning to love and like me,
and slowly it is becoming my reality.
