The essence of human trafficking is to eliminate victims’ power to choose what they like, what they dislike, what they want to do, and where they want to go. There is nothing pleasant, no element of fun, or enjoyment in the life of someone trapped in this situation, that has lost the power to choose.
At Beautiful Dream Society, we emphasize that women in our program get to sit in the driver’s seat of their lives. They hold the power to make choices – even choices as simple as where they’d like to eat and what meal to select on a menu.
What a sweet surprise during a program outing to find out one of our young ladies was eating at a particular place for the first time! Staring at the menu, her excitement grew as she perused her options. She knew had complete power of choice to order what she wanted.
Chicken nuggets, fries, soda, and frozen lemonade arrived at the table. Upon her first bite, this particular precious daughter’s eyes grew wide. “Oh my gosh,” she exclaimed, “This is so good!!” When it was all said and done, every crumb was gone. It’s probably safe to say this young lady gained a new favorite restaurant that day!
