A young man discovers his roots

When Peter was orphaned as a baby thirteen years ago, he was taken to Beautiful Gate Children’s Care Center. He was very young and needed constant love and care just to survive. Then, as a young child, he came to live at one of the Beautiful Dream Society (BDS) Children’s homes, where he became the son to a loving mother and a brother to loving siblings. Now, as a young teen, Peter has passed those early stages of growth, and he is learning to thrive.

With the support of his Beautiful Dream Society family and Victory Church Maseru, he is a part of his community and not a victim of his situation. Peter is determined to become his own man, and naturally, he was curious about his roots. After all these years, BDS staff were able to locate the place of Peter’s original biological family and found that there was property he may have the right to inherit. BDS Staff began to assess and research the situation with the plan to establish Peter’s legal right to any property that may have belonged to his parents. The BDS staff also discovered that Peter had living relatives.

Recently, our BDS social worker took Peter on a road trip to his hometown to meet with the town’s chief. They arrived at the chief’s doorstep at 8 a.m., and he was happy to see Peter all grown up after such a long time. The chief had been involved in Peter’s case when he was orphaned as a baby, so he knew Peter’s situation very well. He did not have any problem authenticating that the ancestral property belongs to Peter’s family.

After receiving the authentication letter written by the chief, the chief asked two of his men to lead Peter and our BDS social worker to find the property. We discovered that Peter’s parents owned a two-room house with electricity and tap water in the middle of a large piece of land. Peter also found a living relative who was the younger sister of his mother. His aunt had been a child herself when Peter was orphaned. At this moment, the property is being used by Peter’s aunt and her children.

Now Peter has roots in his hometown with relatives and a property he will inherit. He has some answers as he continues to grow and learn in the Beautiful Dream Society Children’s Homes and goes on to college or trade school after his secondary education. Another piece of the puzzle of Peter’s life has been revealed, and we join with Peter in claiming this promise from God’s word:

“But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you. I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” —Jeremiah 29:10-14

While Peter will always be a part of the BDS family even after he has grown up and left our care, he has found his roots. We thank God and rejoice with Peter!
