Christmas in Lesotho is quite fun and relaxing, and in some ways different from Christmas in other countries. First of all, Christmas in Lesotho is in the summertime, so the weather is nice and warm. There is no “white Christmas” in Lesotho!
Typically, in Basotho households, people attend church on Christmas Day. When the children wake up on Christmas morning, each child is given a new outfit, including new shoes. They then get dressed in their new clothes and go to church with their parents. After church, it’s time for a special meal of delicious braai (barbecued meat) and many tasty side dishes that go with it. We also always try to have a Christmas party where we give each child a gift.
At our Beautiful Dream Society children’s homes and crisis care shelter for victims of human trafficking, we try and make the holiday even more special since the children are with their BDS families during the holidays. We think it’s important to recognize that although these children and women have been through unfortunate experiences, we can come together and spread love, kindness, and support to one another.
We also want to take a moment to share that December is a month of giving. Beautiful Dream Society is a part of AmazonSmile. With every purchase made through AmazonSmile, a small portion at no cost to you gets donated to your charity of choice, and we encourage you to choose Beautiful Dream Society!
We thank God for our generous supporters and partners who always make it possible for each child and survivor in our anti-trafficking shelter to get a set of new clothes and a Christmas gift. Merry Christmas from Lesotho! May God bless you and yours during this holiday season!
