Pushing through the setbacks

For nearly ten years, Beautiful Dream Society has helped vulnerable boys and girls in Lesotho reach their full potential. We provide the tools to live a life beyond the trauma—one full of hope and success.

Unfortunately, the road to success isn’t always a straight line. Many of the children in our care face repetitive challenges as they grow. We are there to guide them through every obstacle so they can enjoy the best possible quality of life.

Palesa’s rollercoaster through recovery

Palesa came to BDS at just five years old. She lost her mother and father at a young age, much like the 300,000 other orphans in Lesotho.

Palesa has been with us for eight years now. She has grown into a vibrant 13-year-old girl but desperately wants to be with her family. Palesa has an older brother we have reached out to several times, but we have not been able to arrange reunification. Her brother visited her at the Children’s Home last year and brought her new clothes, but communication has come to a standstill.

Every round of communication is followed by heartache for Palesa. She’s trying to hold on to the remaining thread from her former life, but the thread is getting thinner with each passing year.

The future for Palesa

Palesa dreams of becoming an astronaut, and she is working hard at boarding school to achieve her goals. She maintains excellent grades in science, art, social sciences, and technology, and she remains focused in school regardless of distractions.

Over the Easter break, Palesa went home to visit her family and former teachers. She was recognized as one of the top achievers in Grade 7, and she’s continuing that legacy in Grade 8. Palesa is brilliant, humble, and well-mannered, and we’re honored to be a part of her journey.

How you can help children like Palesa

As the children grow and further their studies, their needs also increase. It costs $400 to cover the educational expenses of one high school student for one year (or 6125 Maloti, Lesotho’s currency). That includes tuition, uniforms, books, supplies, transportation, and field trips.

We currently have nine high school students who are all orphans. We rely on community support to fund their futures. Every contribution helps, and the children are endlessly grateful for the opportunities BDS provides them.
