According to UNICEF, there are 240 million children worldwide with special needs. Accommodating these needs is difficult for any family, but it can be particularly challenging in impoverished areas like Lesotho.
Beautiful Dream Society does everything we can to care for children with mental and physical handicaps. Our resources are limited, but our efforts are vast. Our volunteers work tirelessly to give orphans in Lesotho the best possible quality of life.
Rose’s special needs
Rose is a 13-year-old girl who came into the BDS Children’s Home when she was eight. When she arrived, she struggled to walk, speak, and complete age-appropriate tasks.
We put her into our home-schooling program because we struggled to find a school that could support her needs.
After extensive research, we found a special needs school about an hour and a half from our Children’s Home. This boarding school caters to children like Rose with physical disabilities, developmental delays, and other challenges to overcome.
Rose left for school in January, and it was an emotional day for everyone in the home. Rose was happy about new beginnings, but she was also sad to leave her siblings behind. We worried this emotional battle would delay her progress at school, but thankfully, we were proven wrong.
Rose’s progress at her new school
Rose has blossomed in her new boarding school. She has improved in all areas of her life. She can now walk properly, have complete conversations, and manage her studies like other students.
Rose is more talkative than ever before, which allows her to have a better relationship with her siblings. She has made good friends at her school and talks about them non-stop when she returns to the Children’s Home for the holidays.
How you can support special needs children in Lesotho
Rose’s special needs education would not be possible without the generous support from our partners. For just $25 a month, you could help fund a child’s tuition at a special needs school near Lesotho.
We also need funding for school clothes, books, food, medical care, and everything else that goes into saving young children from a life of human trafficking. Every contribution has the power to save a life.
