Lesotho has a large population of orphans, largely due to the poverty and lack of resources in the region. Some of these children are lucky enough to be adopted or reunited with distant family members, but those situations do not work out for everyone.
One of the most heartbreaking scenarios is when an adoption does not stay permanent. Sometimes the family and child are not compatible. Other times, an unforeseen circumstance prohibits the family from committing to placement. No matter what the reason may be, it is always painful for the child involved.
Lira went through this exact experience recently. She settled into a family that she planned to call her own, but her time there was short-lived. She returned to the BDS Children’s Home and was quickly reunited with her brothers and sisters at the orphanage.
The good news is that Lira has a family with Beautiful Dream Society. There are other children for her to bond with and an outstanding support system of trauma-informed adults. We provide a safe space for her to work through her emotions and navigate each milestone in her life.
We have noticed a substantial improvement in Lira’s behavior and academic performance since she came back. That tells us that she can thrive in the right environment, and we’re committed to finding that place for her.
We need your help to continue providing a safe and nurturing environment for Lira and other children like her. We rely on your generous contributions to shelter, educate, and support the children of Lesotho. Their resilience and courage in the face of adversity are truly admirable, and they deserve every resource we can offer them.
